About Burs:

“Toronto-based folk-rock quartet Burs wash over each moment with absolute warmth and homestyle harmony. Tenderness is maintained as gentle strings trade places with perfectly deployed moments of untamed, cathartic release. Above it all, vocals sway with striking vulnerability through themes of love, grief and the search for peace in the modern condition.” - Sled Island [June 2023]

Burs (the small things that stick with you) comprises Lauren Dillen, Ray Goudy, Devon Savas and Aidan McConnell. The group first formed in 2019 when Dillen and Goudy met through a songwriters ensemble in college, inspiring the duo to begin writing together. Dillen and Savas similarly began to collaborate through the same program, eventually sparking the two partnerships to unite. The trio invited McConnell to join Burs in early 2023 after completing a memorable slew of shows together as the backing band for a mutual friend.

Burs launched their first collection of recorded works, Through Windows, in June of 2020. Two home-recorded singles followed the EP in October and November of the same year, taking shape as the Dillen-penned Flowers and Goudy’s Is This Thing On. In July of 2021, the band offered up a cover of Willie Dunn’s I Pity the Country as an homage to the Indigenous folk artist. Hailed as "a rich and often ethereal collection of songs able to change with fluid ease" [The Revue], Burs debut album Holding Patterns was released in September of 2022.

In contrast to the studio-based approach utilised on previous releases, the band has solidified their latest material through extensive live performance. Taking inspiration from contemporaries and creative heroes alike, Burs has intimately crafted a collection of works that doubles down on their folk-rock ethos while stepping into new experimental depths. Their second full-length album, made with production help from Eli Browning and Adam Brisbin, is forecasted for release in fall 2025 through Birthday Cake Records.
